Hearing the name Hidden Hills can evolve a variety of thoughts and images
inside one’s head. A more general image might be that of shadowed mountains or
landscape, whereas someone with certain geographical knowledge of California might
recall the luxurious, beautiful Calabasas neighborhood by that of the same name. For
fashion enthusiasts, Hidden Hills is also bringing to mind the fashion line of Grant
Chapman, 24-year-old entrepreneur.
Grant’s story is one of unconventional, yet well-deserved success. Grant started
his business from scratch, with an idea, a spark of creativity, and a will for his business
to make it through the winter. For Grant, the metaphorical winter of starting his own
business was bitter cold, where Grant even experienced financial loss as he was getting
the line up and running. However, Grant never let any sort of setback or supposed
“defeat” get him down, as Grant has and always will play the long game when it comes
to working hard. In his own words, the key to making a hustle work is consistency and
persistence. He believes that you have to be willing to not give up, even when the going
gets tough.
Grant also believes in the value of hard work, and has the success of his own
business to show for it. People underestimate the challenges of starting your own
business, from the product sourcing, to the advertising, to the inventory maintenance
and production costs. Sometimes, seeing a profit after punching in all the numbers may
seem like a dream. Yet Grant knew that the key to seeing those numbers rise, for him,
was in finding the right names to wear his brand. Grant took to the streets, if you will,
attending high-profile parties and events to meet with the right people, and network his
brand to the big names and their plus ones, or twos, or tens, if you will. Grant had the
mindset to reach as many people as possible with his product, and it comes as no
surprise that this ended up being a smart move.
Grant’s brand ended up getting so much attention that he had some of the
biggest companies in retail eyeing his small business’ product. Forever 21 is even
alleged to have stolen Grant’s work for their own in-store products, which is also not
surprising as they are also alleged to do this kind of thing on the regular. Grant did not
let the mimicry discourage him but instead used it to fuel his fire of motivation to grow
his business.
And grow, it did. Hidden Hills’ instagram boasts the best kind of advertisement:
influencers and celebrities wearing Grant’s brand, but not because of any kind of paid
promotion. Aside from having aesthetically pleasing advertising, Hidden Hills also has
multiple reposted images throughout their page of the way that celebrities love the line
enough to wear the product, sometimes every day. These are the possibilities when you
go after what you want and Grant is showing that to the world, every day.
